Bodywork
Massage Therapy / Bodywork
Massage Therapy and Bodywork are natural and instinctive methods by which aches and pains can be soothed while bringing relief from stress, tension, and fatigue. The effects vary greatly from one person to another depending on the needs of the individual and the results to be achieved. In addition, because the body is treated as a whole, the person can also be affected mentally and emotionally. Many healthy people believe that regular bodywork helps them remain physically, mentally, and emotionally fit. They enjoy the pleasant, refreshed, invigorated, and centered feeling they get from a good session of bodywork. After years of doing Swedish, Deep Tissue, Sports Massage and Reflexology, I now predominantly specialize in the following advanced therapeutic bodywork techniques in which the client can wear light, comfortable clothing.
Cranial – Sacral Therapy
CST is a gentle hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the craniosacral system which is comprised of the membranes and cerebral spinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. Using a soft touch I release restrictions in the craniosacral system to improve the functioning of the central nervous system. By complementing the body’s natural healing processes, CST is increasingly used as a preventive health measure for it’s ability to bolster resistance to disease, and is effective for a wide range of medical problems associated with pain and dysfunction including:
- Migraine Headaches
- Chronic Neck and Back Pain
- Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
- Fibromyalgia
- Motor – Coordination Impairments
- Central Nervous System Disorders
- TMJ Dysfunction
- Learning Disabilities
- Autism
- Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
- Post Surgical Dysfunction
- Neurovascular & Immune Disorders
- Emotional Difficulties
Myofascial Release
The fascial system is a tough connective tissue which spreads throughout the body in a three dimensional web from head to feet without interruption. Trauma, posture, and inflammation can create a binding down of fascia resulting in excessive pressure on nerves, muscles, blood vessels, boney structures, and/or organs. Many of the standard tests such as x-rays, myelograms, CAT scans, etc, do not show the fascial restrictions. It is thought that an extremely high number of people suffering with pain and/or lack of motion may be having fascial problems, but most go undiagnosed. The Myofascial Release I employ consists of the gentle application of sustained pressure into the fascial restrictions. The gentle pressure will allow the fascia to elongate and relax. As a result, pain is reduced and mobility increased.
